IronMan Hawaii World Championship

Description

If you are a triathlete, there is no bigger day in this sport than the Ford Ironman World Championship. It is the race that defined our sport as it came of age, and continues to be the defining race in our sport for any avid triathlete. To get to the starting line in Kona, you must either be very lucky and get yourself a spot through the lottery, or very talented, and win yourself a qualifying spot at one of the qualifying events held around the world. Tens-of-thousands of triathletes try to get one of those coveted Ironman spots every year. Only 1,800 succeeded.

Ironman Lake Placid 2010---- My Race Report from a Spectator's Seat! Part 1

The past weekend was another fun, action-packed whirlwind for my family. After moving home last week from our time at camp, I repacked the car for the annual trip to Lake Placid. This year, I was the spectator and my younger brother, Jeff Small, was the athlete. I was Psyched to watch him!!! I also had a bunch of friends competing and one of my athletes as well. A great day was in store. This packing job took extra thought and care because we were Camping!! In a tent!! I lost my partner...

Alina ROCKS!!!

I'm so proud of my friend!!!! This is us....way back in the beginning. Alina is in the foreground with the striped suit and no goggles. I'm next to her. (My Mom is right behind me with the white shirt..timing the race. Is that Mary's Dad next to her?) This was the beginning of our competitive swimming days. We were on Nautilus Swim Club in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I think we were about 10 or 11 here. I wish I knew what event this was.

Tucson Camp!!!

I had a fantastic long weekend of training with amazing people and fabulous coaches out in Tucson, Arizona!! It's all one big blur right now but over the next few days I will sort out my stories and start blogging about all the great training we did.Right now, I'm in a fog. I'm not entirely sure what day it is, what I should be doing with myself, or what time it is.I miss my new Tri Camp friends and I'm thrilled to be home on one piece. Yesterday was travel day with a little swim thrown in...

Training Camp--Part 1 of Day 1

A few days before I left for Tucson, this is what I was doing. This is Nick, my 6 y.o., pulling his Mom around on a skateboard so I wouldn 't fall. Think I'm ready to climb Mt. Lemmon? We'll see... Despite the snow on our...

Tucson Training--day 2

I left off yesterday at the base of Mt. Lemmon. (check out pictures of this beautiful beast here: www.mountlemmonmarathon.com. )I was excited with how the climb had gone and was feeling just fine on our way back to the house. A transition run was up next and I was looking forward to strapping on the run shoes. As we pulled up to the house, I was right behind Jen. She took her shoes off, placed her bare feet on the bike shoes and hopped off the bike as if she was racing into T2. Um.....Jen? Do...

Wrapping up the Tucson Trip

I was distracted the past few days (by SUN, near 80 degree temps and Easter!) so I've neglected my blog and my stories from Arizona.Let me get back there...The third day of training was focused on the Long ride. We had two groups for this day. The athletes preparing for an Ironman in 2010 were slated to do a 100+ mile ride while the rest of us planned on 50-60. I had some inner struggle with this decision. You see... I love the hard stuff. I love to take on the biggest challenge regardless....

Maybe my Body will Listen?

I'll start this post with a happy little picture and then I'm likely to move in 10 different directions. Sorry Nick...you're sideways. I couldn't rotate the darn thing and it was too cute for me not to post. Just turn your head and peek at my little charmer. This is how Nick (he's 6 and in Kindergarten) went to school yesterday. My kids NEVER ever wear ties to school. But the day before, big brother Cameron announced it was "Tie day." Tommy and Cam both knew this and said they would wear...

Me vs. Lane 1

THE TRACKI have had the pleasure of attacking two track workouts, yes two, in the past 6 days.In short-OUCH!But the short version doesn't give you nearly enough gory details. So here goes.Last Thursday was workout #1. I was nervous and excited. I was ready to GOGOGO and hit the goal times Jen set for me. They were Not easy targets but I'm always up for a good challenge. I did my easy warm up and prepared to run. It's a little ominous staring down the barrel at distances and paces that will...

'Tis the Season

It's school vacation week this week....again. Seems like schools have a LOT of vacations!! I love my time with my children...I am very grateful for it...however, they don't seem to be in school very much. Was it...

A little of this and a little of that...

The kids are back at school today and my house is QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!! We did have fun last week...but I shamefully admit I was in need of a day alone. I have to get a test done, write some training plans, pay the bills, and I guess I'll clean the house a bit. Tick tock tick tock...the 5.5 hrs I have free goes faaaaaast! Instead of tackling my 'must do' list, I thought I'd blog first. My first Tri of the season is approaching quickly!!! May 8th is the Polarbear Sprint. I do enjoy this race....
